In addition to Trev's latest post:
A really good architect said, if nothing else, to design with care, because even if your talent is nothing spectacular, the care will be evident and it will make the things you touch special.
Or something like that. And I think it's true. And hope that somebody will find it encouraging.
As an architect, I can tell when someone was architecting, that there was thought put into something. And even if it's kind of dumb (not in the sense of stupid, but the other sense) or unspectacular, it's something that I notice, and appreciate that somebody put some thought in, did what they could.

Yes. That.
Yes, but you are a thoughtful person. Many people, perhaps the majority don't wish to think at all. Hopefully, they'll acknowledge the care on some level - be it they find the result comfortable or comforting, or some such, like a Japanese garden. Sometimes the best accolade is to not be noticed. If you did your job and set up the infrastructure perfectly, it just works, like a bridge or electrical grid. Some bridges are pleasing to the eye as well as being functional, or they take into account the surroundings, but ultimately, you want to get from one end to the other without tumbling into the drink.
"It just works" - that's been Apple's approach to technology. A friend has a software company, Humanized, and their goal is similar.
I do like the idea of home as Zen garden. And of making a Zen garden. At the same time, though, I do want my fruit bushes and vegetable plants.
Trev, thanks. :)
