a funny thing about my church experience is a sense that it is not okay to have and ask hard questions.

that's one i can do without...

I think church really isn't for those with hard questions... it's for those who need the things it provides... affiliation, spiritual comfort, moral direction, activities, celebration (some churches better than others in all of these regards).

Institutions aren't created for those whose needs are different... purpose, truth, enlightenment, higher vision. Hence, the higher path tends to be solitary except for intentional communities and certain other exceptional environments.

True - but I guess I wasn't clear - if one has to be fake to fit in - who needs it.

julie,

Is this a reflection of a recent experience?

Sean - not at all, more a reflection of church experiences over time. I haven't gone regularly in the last couple of years.

Church is refuge for sheep; goats are refused.
